COAL MINE METHANE PROJECT PROFILE, WAYNESBURG, PA

Project Description

Traditionally, coal mine methane, the greenhouse gas released by mining, has been vented out of mines as waste. This practice protects the safety of miners but also harms the environment and wastes methane. For several years, in the hopes of turning this waste stream into new revenue, mining companies have sought a method to treat the methane for contaminants and turn this waste stream into a marketable product. BCCK’s Nitech™ process integrates the removal of the four most common coal mine methane contaminants: nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water and creates a sellable methane stream.  To date, BCCK has designed and installed the world’s only operational, integrated coal mine methane upgrading facilities.
